Miso Harissa Seared Salmon Recipe
Miso is a fantastic match for rich oily fish like salmon, mackerel, and tuna. Here our umami rich miso flavours are pumped up with the addition of a spicy pepper paste called harissa, sweetened with a little maple syrup and a splash of balsamic vinegar. This is a fantastic marinade for fish or rich meats.
We will simply mix all the ingredients together, cover the salmon and then leave it in the fridge for a couple of hours or overnight, and then sear it. Our miso harissa seared salmon can be enjoyed with a big bowl of rice or noodles. Alternatively, slice it and add it to a bento box.

Instructions
- Remove the skin and any bones from your piece of salmon and pat dry.
- In a mixing bowl, mix together the miso paste, the rose harissa, balsamic vinegar, and maple syrup until you have smooth paste.
- Using a spoon, cover both sides of the salmon with the paste and leave in the fridge, covered for 2 hours or overnight.
- When ready to cook, return the salmon to room temperature, and remove excess sauce. It will have taken on the flavours already.
- Sear the salmon on each side for 30 seconds. If you like your salmon completely cooked through, then cook for an extra few minutes. In this recipe, we will be enjoying the slightly pink salmon inside.
- Leave to rest for a minute, before slicing carefully and laying it over warm rice.
